Pin Up Makeup
Think Bettie Page, Betty Grable, Marilyn Monroe or in recent times, Dita Von Teese and Kate Perry, and the common binding image that pops to your mind is of red pouting lips, wavy hair and cat like eyes, all of which team up to exude sensuality from every pore in their body. These pin up girls have always managed to stir awake the imagination of the population. While not conventionally pretty or beautiful, pin up girls by enhancing a few of their features, tend to become the toast of the fashion and entertainment world as examples of women who are not afraid of showcasing their sexy side. One of the key ingredients in creating this look and transforming the plain ol' Norma Jean Bakers of the world to become the seductive Marilyn Monroes, is the right makeup. Wearing the right make up will help you channel your inner pin up girl and make you ready to let go of your inhibitions.
How to do Pin Up Makeup
Pin up makeup looks brilliant if you are looking for a different style of makeup then your everyday look for a night out, but it definitely is not a daily wear look, unless of course you are in the entertainment business and your look is what sets you apart in the crowd. The different makeup items that you will need in order to create this look is foundation, eyebrow pencil, eyeliner, eyeshadow in two colors, vanilla and blue, highlighting powder, false eyelashes, blush in rose color and red lipstick. If you are trying your hand at mimicking one of the celebs' makeup styles, then these are tips that you will need to follow.
- Eyebrows tend to be ignored by most women but high lifting, groomed, perfect eyebrows are very important to the look. Your eyebrows should be at their thinnest at the inner corners and at their thickest at the outer tips. Use an eyebrow pencil to fill in your eyebrows in case they are sparse. Comb them with an eyebrow comb before filling them in. If you want to set your eyebrows, you can use a gel to do so.
- One of the important tips to remember is that pin up girls tend to have a milky complexion and matte look, therefore, once you have finished applying the foundation and the concealer, you should use a powder to set it. Use a foundation that is the same shade as your skin tone or a shade lighter. Remember that you need to cover up any flaws that your skin has.
- Use a highlighter of the same shade as your skin tone on areas such as your forehead and cheekbones. These are features that tend to get accentuated by light.
- Now take the rose colored blush, and using a large blush brush, apply it on the apples of your cheeks in an upward motion. Use a shimmer blush for better results.
- Take the vanilla colored eyeshadow and apply it on your eyelid, starting from the lash line to the brows. Now take the blue eyeshadow and apply it from the lash line till the area where the eyelid creases. Now blend the two eyeshadow shades slightly to give it a more natural appearance. While applying eyeshadow, remember to allow the two colors to have a distinction despite being merged.
- The next step is to line your eyes using an eyeliner. Use a liquid eyeliner as the look is all about creating drama. Start from the inner end of the upper eyelid, moving outwards and beyond the outer corner to give your eyes a cat like appearance. Allow the liner to be as thick as you would like it to be. Thick eyeliner is integral to the pin up girl look. Now fix false eyelashes to complete your eye makeup. In case you are uncomfortable with the idea of false lashes, you can apply lengthening and thickening mascara to your eyelashes.
- The last but definitely one of the most important looks is getting your lips to resemble the lips of the gorgeous pin up girls of yesteryear. Fill in your lips with a bright red lipstick and voila, you are ready.
