  • Scissors
Directions
  • Good measurements are crucial as pencil skirts are body hugging. Measure your hips, waist and thighs. Also measure around the legs to know where the hem of the skirt would be. The measurements should give you enough space to move around easily.
  • Put the patterns down on paper with the exact measurements to get an idea of how the skirt would look. A waist band- 3.5 x 30 inches (waist plus 1.25 inches). A rectangle measuring 14 inches x 32 inches (for the back), rectangle measuring 14 x 32 for the front.
  • With the help of these patterns drawn on the paper, you can cut the fabric using those measurements.
  • Mark the places that you want the tucks at the waist, tapering to a point. These should be in center around 1 x 6 inches in the front and 2 x 6 inches at the back.
  • Stitch the back parts of the fabric in a half inch seam, pin the front sides to the back with enough space for you to wear it.
  • wear and see if the fit is right for you. If not ,make the adjustments, after carefully stepping out of the skirt.
  • Once this is done, cut off the extra fabric and stitch the seams on the sides. The zipper should come in on the sides, therefore, leave around 9 inches open on the left top side.
  • Fold the waist band, with the correct side of the fabric facing each other and stitch the ends.
  • Cut the seams, turn the waist band and press it. Turn the waist band to the inside by half an inch from the raw end and press again. Stitch the waist band to the skirt, leaving the side near the zipper open. Sew the buttons or hooks on the waist band.
