How to Clean a Boar Bristle Hairbrush
A boar bristle hairbrush is used for removing the dirt from your hair, but using an unclean brush is useless. It may cause more harm than good. So you should periodically clean your bristle brush. Cleaning it is not that difficult, I have listed a few easy steps which you can use to clean your boar bristle brush.
Step 1: The Setup
To make the cleaning process less time-consuming, you should get all the things that you will need for the process, before you start. You do not want to be searching for things in the middle of the cleaning, right? Here is the list of the things that you will require:
- Comb
- Sink/vessel
- Shampoo
- Warm water
- Towel
Whenever you use a boar bristle hairbrush there is strong probability that a few strands of your hair will get stuck in the bristles of the brush. If you do not remove these strands, they will accumulate, and will reduce the effectiveness of the hairbrush. To remove the hair stuck on the brush, you will need a comb. Take the comb in your dominant hand, and the bristled hairbrush in your other hand (the bristles should face you), and start removing the stuck hair using the teeth of the comb. Move the comb through the bristles several times. Make sure that there are no strands of hair left on the brush. Do not go to the next step unless all the stuck hair is removed.
Step 3: Removing the Dust
The next task is to remove the dust off the bristles. You might have removed some of the dust during step 1, but that is not enough. Take the bristled brush, hold it in such a way that its back (side without bristles) is facing you, and tap it with the back of the comb. Tap it repeatedly.
Here is an alternative method that you can use; take the brush, and slowly hit its edge on the wall. See that you do not hit the brush too hard, else you might damage it. Hit a few times before proceeding.
Step 4: Shampooing the Brush
Shampoo might be harmful for your hair, but it is great for your boar bristle hairbrush, so do not hesitate in using it. Take the warm water, and pour it in the sink/vessel (make sure that the sink/vessel is clean before you do so). Now, apply some shampoo on the brush. Use your fingers to make sure that the shampoo is applied properly. Now, dip the brush (only the bristles) in the warm water, and shake it thoroughly. Continue shaking for a minute. Now, rinse the bristles using clean water.
Note: Instead of applying shampoo on the brush, you can mix some shampoo in hot water, and then dip the brush in it. Do not let water come in contact with the wooden part of your brush.
Step 5: Drying the Brush
Your hairbrush is now clean, but before you start using it you should make sure that it is completely dry. To dry the brush, you should spread out a clean towel, and then take the wet brush and place it on the towel, such that the bristles are in contact with the towel. Leave it in this position for a few hours. If you want, you can keep the brush wrapped in the towel for a couple of hours.
Once the hairbrush is dry, you can start using it. Using a clean brush will obviously be more beneficial than using a dirty one. So see that you clean your boar bristled hairbrush regularly, preferably after every use.
